Chico State's field hockey team was re-introduced to Chico in 2003. The
program was started by Kyle Brantner, a former USA Men's National Team player. Kyle hoped to achieve three goals with California
State University Chico's new collegiate hockey team. The first goal is developing a team where school comes first. The second
goal is forming a group girls who become very tight friends through competition and travel. The third goal is to bring back
Chico State's field hockey prestige. Practices are tentatively scheduled to be on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3-5pm
on Yolo Field. Travel will take place on the weekends to scheduled games against other colleges. The Western Collegiate Field
Hockey Conference is made up of both UC's and State Universities throughout California. This season the
league consists of Chico State, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly SLO, and UC Irvine.
Kyle coached the team for
two years and has said that, "Coaching the Chico State
team was one of the best times in my field hockey career. I became really close to all the girls and had a wonderful
time coaching. I only see positive things for the future of Chico
State field hockey." This year the team was taken over by
former Chico State field hockey player, Emily Rutherford.
Kyle Brantner has now moved on to coach at Duke University. Since
coaching at Duke he's expirienced a whole new world of competive field hockey. This season the Duke Field Hockey program
has a winning record of 17-4-0 and are currently competing in the Final Four.
